Method

How it works and the exact formula

Personal color analysis matches clothing, makeup and hair colors to your natural coloring. The 12-season system, which grew out of the four-season approach popularized by Carole Jackson's Color Me Beautiful in 1980, describes coloring along three dimensions: hue (warm golden vs. cool blue-pink undertone), value (light vs. deep) and chroma (bright and clear vs. soft and muted). Each of the four families, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, splits into three sub-seasons depending on which dimension dominates.

This tool combines two steps. First, the free geometric scan runs entirely in your browser with MediaPipe's 478 landmarks, which tells us where your skin, eyes and hair are in the image. Second, and only if you tick the consent box, a compressed copy of your photo is sent to a vision model that reads skin undertone, Fitzpatrick tone, contrast between skin, eyes and hair, and overall depth. It returns one of the 12 seasons with a two-sentence explanation, six best colors and three to avoid.

You also get a free neckline try-on: the same photo, edited so you are wearing a top in your best shade. Seeing a color next to your own skin is the closest thing to a physical draping session. The uploaded photo is stored in a private bucket and deleted automatically within two hours; it is never used to train AI models.

Lighting decides accuracy. Color analysis from a selfie works best in indirect daylight from a window, without makeup, filters or colored lenses, and with hair pulled back if it is dyed far from your natural shade. Warm indoor bulbs push results toward Autumn and Spring; cold screens and shade push them toward Summer and Winter.

Your free result also includes the reasoning, so you can sanity-check it: a two-sentence explanation of how your skin, eye and hair contrast place you in the season. If the explanation describes features that don't match you (for example 'high contrast' when your hair and skin are close in depth), retake the photo in better light before trusting the palette.

Each season borrows from its neighbors, which is why 'Soft' and 'Bright' seasons are neutral in undertone. If your result feels close to a neighbor, test both palettes in daylight.

Styling

Styling and virtual try-on by result

Your season is a palette, not a rulebook. Use it first where color sits closest to your face: tops, necklines, frames, scarves and hair color.

Spring

Clear, warm colors: coral, peach, golden yellow, warm turquoise, camel. Gold jewelry and honey or tortoiseshell frames. Avoid black and icy pastels near the face.

Preview necklines in your palette

Summer

Soft, cool colors: dusty rose, lavender, powder blue, sage, soft navy. Silver jewelry and grey or translucent frames. Avoid orange and saturated mustard.

Find frames in your tones

Autumn

Muted, warm colors: olive, rust, terracotta, mustard, teal, chocolate. Antique gold and tortoiseshell. Avoid icy pastels and pure white.

Try an autumn neckline

Winter

Clear, cool colors with contrast: true black, pure white, emerald, sapphire, fuchsia. Silver and black frames. Avoid dusty, muddy mid-tones.

Hair color

Stay within your season's temperature: warm seasons suit golden, copper and caramel tones; cool seasons suit ash, platinum and blue-black.

Personal Color Analysis: frequently asked questions

What season am I?

Take a daylight selfie without makeup, tick consent for the AI color step, and you'll get one of 12 seasons with an explanation based on your undertone, depth and contrast. If you don't consent, the geometric scan still works but can't determine color.

How accurate is AI personal color analysis from a selfie?

Accuracy depends mostly on lighting. In indirect daylight with no filters, AI analysis gives a consistent result close to an in-person draping. Under warm bulbs or with heavy makeup, results can shift by one neighboring season.

What's the difference between Soft Summer and Soft Autumn?

Both are muted and low-contrast. Soft Summer leans cool (dusty rose, smoky blue, silver), Soft Autumn leans warm (olive, camel, antique gold). Hold dusty rose and camel to your face in daylight: whichever makes skin look even is your side.

How do I know if my undertone is warm or cool?

Look at your skin in daylight next to pure white and off-white. Cool undertones look best with pure white and silver; warm undertones with cream and gold. Vein color is a weak test and often misleading.

Can my color season change?

Your undertone stays the same, but depth and contrast change with tanning, hair color and age. Many people shift to a softer neighboring season as hair greys.

Is my photo stored for color analysis?

Only with consent, in a private bucket, and it's deleted automatically within two hours. It's never used to train AI and never sold.

Is 12-season analysis better than 4-season?

Twelve seasons capture people who sit between families, such as warm-but-muted Soft Autumn. The four-season system works for clear-cut cases but forces many people into a palette that is too bright or too cool.
