FaceIQ Labs Alternative: Free Front and Side Facial Ratio Analysis

A FaceIQ Labs alternative for facial ratios: a free 478-landmark browser scan, no signup, with front ratios plus side-profile E-line and convexity estimates.

By the TheFaceRating Editorial TeamPublished

FaceIQ Labs is a facial analysis service focused on facial ratios. If you're searching for an alternative, you probably want the ratios themselves (thirds, fifths, canthal tilt, jaw angle, profile angles), ideally free, from a front photo and with the formulas visible. This guide shows which ratios you can measure in your browser and how the side-profile estimate works.

Every ratio is computed after rotating the face so the line between the iris centers (468, 473) is horizontal.

Side profile from a front photo

Landmark models struggle with true side photos, but MediaPipe predicts depth for every landmark. The side profile analysis reprojects the facial midline into a side view and estimates:

  • Facial convexity: 180° minus the glabella–subnasale–pogonion angle (reference about 12° ± 4°).
  • Nasolabial angle: columella to upper lip at subnasale (reference about 90–110°).
  • E-line: upper and lower lip distance from the nose-tip-to-chin line, in mm, scaled by your iris diameter (≈ 11.7 mm). Ricketts' reference is about −4 mm and −2 mm.

Because depth is inferred from one photo, treat profile values as estimates.

What TheFaceRating does

  • Free on-device scan. Google's MediaPipe Face Landmarker places 478 landmarks on your photo inside your browser. The free measurements never upload your photo.
  • Transparent formulas. Every tool page lists the exact landmarks and formulas, from symmetry to canthal tilt and side profile.
  • No account to start. You don't need to sign up to scan; an email is only needed for purchases and the Studio.
  • Styling on your own photo. The paid report renders 14 identity-preserving try-ons (6 hairstyles, 4 necklines, 4 frames) on your real selfie, plus your 12-season palette.
  • One-time pricing. Reports are a single payment ($7.99, $16.99 or $24.99). There is no subscription.
  • Short retention. Uploaded selfies are deleted within 2 hours and free scan results after 48 hours.

Take a scan-ready photo before comparing anything

Every face analysis tool, ours included, is only as good as the photo. Before you compare results between services, use the same photo for all of them and make it a good one:

  1. Distance: hold the phone at arm's length, or have someone take it from 1.5–2 m with the rear camera. Close selfies enlarge the nose and narrow the jaw.
  2. Height: camera at eye level. Shooting from below widens the jaw; from above shrinks the chin.
  3. Light: face a window in daylight. Overhead bulbs cast eye shadows that hide eye-corner landmarks.
  4. Expression: neutral and relaxed, mouth closed, looking into the lens.
  5. Hair: off the forehead and behind the ears so face width can be measured.

If two services disagree, a better photo usually closes most of the gap. The photo A/B battle can tell you which of your photos is the most faithful.

How accurate are front-photo ratios?

Front ratios are reliable when the face is square to the camera. Landmark placement on a sharp 1280-pixel photo is consistent to within a pixel or two, which translates to roughly ±0.01 on width ratios and about ±1° on angles. The bigger errors come from the photo: a 5° head turn compresses one side of the face and changes symmetry and jaw ratios more than the landmark model ever would, which is why we level the head and warn when it's turned.

Profile values are a different story. Depth from a single front photo is inferred, not measured, so convexity and E-line distances carry more uncertainty, typically a few degrees and a millimetre or two. They're good for understanding the shape of your profile and tracking it under consistent conditions, not for clinical decisions.

When FaceIQ Labs may suit you better

If you need ratios measured from a true lateral photo, a service built around front-and-side uploads may be more precise for profile values. If you want free front ratios, a quick profile estimate and practical styling, start with the browser scan.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get facial ratios for free?

Yes. All front ratios and the side-profile estimate on TheFaceRating are free in your browser with no signup.

Do I need a side photo for profile analysis?

No. We estimate profile angles from the depth channel of the 3D face mesh of a front photo. A true side photo would be more precise.

Which landmarks do you use?

MediaPipe Face Landmarker's 478 points, for example 10, 168, 2 and 152 for thirds, 234 and 454 for width, and 33, 133, 362 and 263 for canthal tilt. Every tool page lists them.

How accurate are browser-based ratios?

On a sharp, frontal photo, landmarks are consistent within a pixel or two, which is about ±1° for angles on a typical selfie. Lens distance and head angle matter more than the algorithm.

Is TheFaceRating affiliated with FaceIQ Labs?

No. The products are unrelated.

Can I measure facial fifths?

Yes. The golden ratio calculator splits your face width into five segments at eye level and shows each one against the 20% ideal.
